"Near me" matters less than you think

With a pickup service, the laundry comes to you. So the question isn't really who's closest. It's who's reliable, clear about price, and easy to deal with.

Here are seven questions worth asking any laundry service before you hand over a bag — and our own answers, so you can compare.

1. Is pickup and delivery included, or extra?

Some services add a pickup and delivery fee to every order. On a small order that adds up quickly.

Our answer: pickup and delivery are free, every time, across more than 100 Brisbane suburbs.

2. What's the minimum order?

Every pickup service has one. You want to know it before you book, not at the door.

Our answer: 2 loads, $66 including GST. New customers get those first 2 loads for $33.

3. How is it priced — per load, per kilo or per item?

Per-kilo and per-item pricing are fine, but they're hard to predict in advance. Ask for a rough total for a typical week of your washing.

Our answer: per load. $66 for the first 2, then $27.50 for each extra load of up to 5kg. You can work out your bill before you book.

4. Who actually handles my washing?

With some services, the business you book with isn't the one that washes your laundry — it's passed to a contractor in your area. That isn't necessarily bad, but it's worth knowing.

Our answer: we're a local Brisbane family business. The people who collect your washing are the people who wash and fold it. If something needs sorting out, you talk to Bruce, the owner.

5. When will I get it back?

Be wary of big promises here. Turnaround depends on the day, the size of the order and the weather.

Our answer: we confirm the turnaround for your booking when we confirm the pickup. We'd rather give you a time we'll keep than a slogan.

6. What happens if it's not right?

Ask this one directly. The answer tells you a lot.

Our answer: if your laundry doesn't come back clean, dry and neatly folded, we rewash it free. That's on top of your normal consumer rights.

7. Am I locked in?

Some services push subscriptions. A subscription can be good value, but only once you know you like the service.

Our answer: no contract and no subscription. Book once, book weekly, stop whenever you like. If you do set up a regular pickup, ask and we'll give you a free reusable laundry bag.

What we don't do

So you can rule us out quickly if we're not the right fit: we don't iron, we don't dry clean, and we don't promise that every stain will come out. We do machine washing, drying and folding, and we do it properly.
