Why we charge per load, not per kilogram

Most commercial laundry services charge per kilogram. We charge per load. Here's why our pricing structure is simpler — and usually cheaper — for small businesses and households.

Two ways to price laundry

If you call around Brisbane commercial laundry services, you'll hear two pricing structures:

1. Per kilogram — common with bigger commercial operators. Your laundry gets weighed on arrival and you pay $X per kilo. 2. Per load — what we do. A "load" is a defined volume (up to 5kg with us), and you pay a flat rate per load.

Both can work. They just suit different customers. Here's why we settled on per load.

The problem with per-kilogram pricing

Weight-based pricing sounds fair on the surface — pay for what you've got. But three issues come up consistently:

1. You can't predict your bill. You hand over a bag, you get back a number. The "estimate" you got over the phone is often half what the actual weight comes back as (wet vs dry weight, towel saturation, etc).

2. Wet weight games. Some operators weigh after light pre-wetting or with mixed materials that bulk up the kilo count. This isn't universal but it happens.

3. The minimum threshold is often hidden. Most kilogram-based services have a minimum weight that's higher than people realise. So "ten dollars a kilo" turns into "fifteen kilo minimum" — and your small load gets charged like a big one.

Why per-load is cleaner for our customers

We mostly work with salons, gyms, spas, Airbnbs and households. Across that mix, a "load" is a meaningful unit:

  • A salon's daily towel pile = roughly 1 load
  • An Airbnb 1-bed changeover = roughly 1-2 loads
  • A household's weekly washing = roughly 2-3 loads

When you know that, the math is simple. You don't need to guess the weight or wait for a weighing to know what it'll cost.

Our actual structure

  • First 2 loads: $60 + GST flat (the minimum booking)
  • Each additional load: $25 + GST
  • One load = up to 5kg

So:

  • 2 loads = $60 + GST = $66 inc GST
  • 4 loads = $110 + GST = $121 inc GST
  • 6 loads = $160 + GST = $176 inc GST

Free pickup and delivery is included in every booking.

The 5kg per load rule

A standard domestic load is about 5kg dry weight. That's roughly:

  • A salon towel pile after a busy day
  • Sheets + towels for a 1-bedroom Airbnb changeover
  • A medium load of household washing

If something looks borderline, we count it as the next load up. We don't play games trying to undercount — and we don't play games trying to over-count either. Predictability is the whole point.

When per-kilogram might suit you better

If you're a high-volume operator running 50kg+ a day consistently — large hotel, hospital, industrial operation — per-kilogram pricing from a big commercial laundry will probably beat us. We're built for the salon / spa / gym / Airbnb / household band.

For everyone in that band, per-load is simpler, more predictable, and usually cheaper.
